What if you could unfreeze the dioramas at the American Museum of Natural History?

Taxidermy Talks
A Critical Listening Guide to Wonder, Death, and Display
invites a reimagining of the traditional museum audio guide, staging imagined conversations between animals inside AMNH dioramas and their living counterparts to bring the still displays to life. Blending humor, satire, and critical reflection, Taxidermy Talks encourages visitors to reflect on the constructed, ideological nature of these exhibits, confronting the artifice, death, and wonder embedded throughout the museum.

How we propose it to work

1. Taxidermy Talks stops will be marked by small mirrors placed near the corresponding dioramas. These mirrors offer a moment of self-recognition as you engage with the displays.

2. Each mirror will be embedded with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology.

3. To access the guide, tap a smartphone over the surface of the mirror.

4. Your device will automatically open a link to the corresponding Taxidermy Talks audio guide for that diorama.
